Sydney Sake Festival 2026: Explore Our Free Seminar Program 🤩

Sydney Sake Festival 2026 is not only an opportunity to explore hundreds of sake varieties, food and products, but also a chance to learn directly from exhibitors through a diverse program of free educational seminars.

This year’s sessions cover everything from sake and regional food culture to fermentation, craftsmanship, pairing and Japanese culture.

Whether you’re new to sake or looking to discover more about the regions, makers and traditions represented at the festival, these free sessions offer another way to experience Japan throughout the weekend.

Exceptional Drinks Crafted with Unique Ingredients and Techniques / Heavy Snowfall Areas and Sake

Learn how the climate and lifestyle of one of Japan’s heaviest snowfall regions influence local sake, with the opportunity to taste two different varieties. The session will also introduce distinctive alcoholic beverages made using traditional fermentation techniques, including creations featuring Niigata’s renowned Le Lectier pear and figs.

What is Niigata Sake?

Discover why Niigata is regarded as the “sacred land of sake” in Japan and is home to the country’s largest number of sake breweries.

This seminar explores what makes Niigata such a highly regarded sake-producing region, while introducing the breweries and sake represented at the festival. Learn the stories behind their brewing and discover the refined character of Niigata sake.

The World of Fermented Spices / The Art of Japanese Natural Indigo Selvedge Denim

Learn about kanzuri, a rare Japanese chilli seasoning fermented and aged from three years to six years to develop deep umami and complex flavour. Then explore Japanese natural indigo selvedge denim crafted using Myoko’s snow and pure snowmelt water, and discover the techniques and philosophy behind Japan’s distinctive denim culture.

NAGANO ~From The Land of Pure Waters~ Exhibitor Showcase

Presented by NAGANO The Land of Pure Waters

Experience the flavours of Nagano, the Land of Pure Waters, through a special tasting showcasing producers and regional specialties brought to Sydney.

Featured products include award-winning Masumi sake, premium Kazesayaka rice, traditional Shichimi spice, Nagano-style Oyaki, Nozawana rice seasoning and additive-free kimchi made with Nagano-grown ingredients.

Sharing Japan’s Kawaii Culture with the World / Discover Joetsu-Myoko, All Year Round

Discover Japan’s kawaii culture through Myoko-based artist Minori’s chibi-style portrait art and original character creations. The session will also introduce the Joetsu Myoko way of life, exploring the region through its snow country, local food, sake, fermentation culture, people and hands-on rural experiences.
